Math 7D Big Idea: Negative numbers can be found in many things around us. Essential Question:
how do we subtract and add negative integers? Notes from Class: Positive Number: A number greater then 0. On a number line, positive numbers are located to the right of 0. Negative Number: A number less than 0. On a number line, negative numbers are located to the left of 0. Problem 1.1 A. Which team has the highest score? Which team has the lowest score? Explain how you know your answers are correct.
The team Rocket Scientists has a score of 150 which is the highest score. The team Know-It-Alls have the lowest score because they have negative 500. I know that my answers are correct because there was only one team with a positive number which means its the highest and for the lowest the negative number's absolute value is the greatest then it means it's the lowest score.
B. How many points separate the highest score and the lowest score?.
650 points separate the highest and lowest score.
C. describe another way the Rocket Scientists may have reached their score. For each of the other two teams , give one possible way the team could have reached their score?
Rocket Scientists: they might have answered a 250 point question correctly, but then answered a 100 point question incorrectly.
Super Brains: they might have answered a 200 point question incorrectly, then answered a 100 point question incorrectly.
Know-It-Alls: they might have answered two 250 questions incorrectly.
D. What is each team's score now?
Rocket Scientist: negative 150 Super Brains: negative 150 Know-It-Alls: negative 300
E. Which team is in last place? How far behind each of the other two teams is this team?
The team Know-It-Alls is in the lat place. Know-It-Alls is 150 from the other 2 teams.
Problem 1.1 Follow-up In Ms. Bernosiki's fifth period class, the Smarties have negative 300 points, and the Brain Surgeons have negative 150 points. After answering the next four questions, the Smarties are tied with the Brain Surgeons. Give two possible ways the smarties could have done this.
Smarties: they might have answered a 250 point question incorrectly, then answered a 50 point question correctly, later answered a 200 point question correctly, next they answered a 150 point question correctly. Or they could have answered a 200 point question correctly, then answered a 150 point question correctly, next a 50 point question correclty, later answered a 250 point question incorrectly.
